Wheel Lift Towing

Wheel Lift Towing in Sacramento, CA

Wheel-lift towing is faster than flatbed for short urban moves on tight streets. We lift the drive wheels, secure them, and the vehicle rolls behind us on its non-drive wheels.

Section 01 · About Wheel Lift Towing

What wheel lift towing actually looks like

Wheel-lift is the right tool for tight-access tows: apartment garages, parking lots, downtown streets where a flatbed can't maneuver. It's quicker to hook up than flatbed, which matters when traffic and time are tight.

  • Faster setup than flatbed, useful for short moves.
  • Works on standard FWD and RWD vehicles.
  • Not used for AWD, 4WD, or low-clearance vehicles (we flatbed those).
  • Common for impound, repo, and downtown breakdowns.

Section 04 · Where a wheel lift beats a flatbed

The right tool for tight spaces

A wheel lift is a hydraulic yoke that slides under two wheels and lifts them clear while the other two stay on the road. It is less glamorous than a flatbed and in the right situation it is far more useful.

It gets into places a flatbed cannot. Underground parking with a low ceiling, narrow apartment complex lanes, tandem spaces, tight driveways, cars parked nose-in against a wall with something parked behind them. A flatbed needs a long straight run to deck a vehicle. A wheel lift needs a fraction of it, and it can pull a car out sideways from a spot the bed could never reach.

It is quicker to hook. Fewer minutes on scene, which matters when the car is blocking a lane or sitting in an active roadway.

Where it is not appropriate, and we will tell you on the phone if we can work it out before rolling:

  • All-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, unless we put dollies under the wheels left on the ground.
  • Most electric vehicles, which need all four wheels off the road.
  • Very low front or rear clearance, where the yoke or the body will make contact.
  • Damaged suspension, seized wheels, or anything that will not roll freely on the pair still touching the ground.

If you are not certain which your car needs, describe it to dispatch. Make, model, drive type if you know it, and whether it rolls. We would rather send the correct truck once than send the wrong one and come back.
